A Lincoln Landmark Since 1963

The Story of Sky Park

Some buildings are just places to live. Sky Park is a piece of Lincoln history.

When Sky Park Manor opened its doors in 1963, it was unlike anything the city had seen. Built for $1.5 million by Selmer A. Solheim and Olson Construction, the twelve-story tower was designed for Lincolnites who wanted the ease of downtown living without the upkeep of a house. Professionals, business leaders, retirees, and even Nebraska lawmakers called it home — drawn by the promise of convenience, elegance, and a front-row seat to a thriving city.

The building was ambitious for its era. Every apartment was designed with at least two points of balcony access, so residents could take in the downtown and Capitol views. The second floor featured a "Fun and Sun Deck" complete with a pool — a genuine luxury in 1963. And in a nod to the times, the building even included a fallout shelter, which today serves as the community's event and multi-purpose space.

That architectural significance hasn't gone unnoticed. Sky Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a striking example of the International Style — clean lines, functional design, and a bold vertical presence on the Lincoln skyline. Walk through the public spaces today and you'll still find original mid-century details preserved on every floor, a living connection to the building's roots.

More than sixty years later, Sky Park continues to do exactly what it was built to do: offer downtown Lincoln living with character you simply can't replicate. When you choose a home here, you're not just renting an apartment — you're becoming part of a story that's been unfolding since 1963.
